  • Where Are They Now? Kelly Pfeiffer

Welcome to "Where Are They Now?", a series that follows the journey of individuals who have attended one of our courses and how they have applied the skills and knowledge gained with us in their professional and personal lives. We believe that learning is a lifelong journey, and we take pride in knowing that our program has had a positive impact on the lives of our attendees. Kelly Pfeiffer, PA-C/RN Introducing Kelly Pfeiffer as the newest addition to our "Where Are They Now?" series brings us great excitement. Kelly took part in a Combined Full Day Hands-Training Course Jan 28 2022 and completed our Novice Facial Filler and Novice Neuromodulator Online Courses. What were you doing before you got into aesthetics? As an RN I worked in cardiac progressive care and cardiology for four and a half years. I decided to pursue a PA degree and moved to Chicago for school. After obtaining my masters in physician assistant studies, I worked in pediatric cardiology and adult congenital disease at the University of Chicago. After a year and a half, I transitioned to orthopedic surgery at Rush where I spent the next five and a half years of my career. What inspired you to pursue a career in aesthetics? My mom. The last thing she said to me was “you are so beautiful.” A few months later after grueling days in the newly onset Covid pandemic, I remember looking in the mirror and thinking “Rhonda, you thought I was beautiful because you had mom goggles on. Because the girl in this mirror looks TIRED.” It made me laugh (but also I immediately started looking into a way for a refresh). I then sought out aesthetic treatments for myself and had a mini revelation. I was actually studying a specialty I didn’t work in and on my own time. I found it fascinating. And when I got my first treatment, I felt refreshed, and more importantly, still myself. I started to see others who had the same experience and realized aesthetics was procedural, autonomous, artistic, creative, and the patients happiness at the end of their treatments made is so fun! Why did you choose The Confidence Lab's training program? When I first started looking into aesthetics, I knew I needed a good foundation and training program. With everything that’s out there, I found myself overwhelmed and confused. I started asking injectors I had been following on Instagram and who I felt matched my approach to patient care and the aesthetic field. Time and time again, the same name came up: Rana Kennelly and The Confidence Bar. So I started doing my research on Rana and her team. Every single one of them seemed genuine, fun, kind, and knowledgeable. But the most impactful reason I chose TCB and what finalized my decision was that their core values aligned with mine: community over competition, patient centered care, and SAFETY always. What is your favorite aspect of working in the field of aesthetics? I love the relationships you build with the patient. I like seeing them love their treatments and feel good. There aren’t many jobs that can instill the happiness that you see with aesthetics in your clients. Also, I like using my creative side along with my advanced degree and anatomy knowledge. What are you doing now? I was recently hired as a full time injector at Fulcrum Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery under Brittony Croasdell and Dr. David Hill. What advice would you give to those considering a career in this field? Know your values. Keep good outcomes and patient care at the center. Because that’s what will drive you to go to extra trainings, read the extra textbooks, watch the modules, do the labs. It’s easy to put in the extra work when you know that that work is what will keep your patients happy and safe while making you better at your craft.

  • Apparel created for people in the aesthetic confidence boosting community

I am Olivia Kirkpatrick, an Aesthetic Provider at The Confidence Bar. About 6 months ago I created an apparel line for the aesthetic confidence boosting community. No, I am not a fashion designer. No, I am not a stylist, textile designer, or fashion buyer, but I have created some pretty “OK” (play on words, get it? LOL) pieces geared towards the beauty industry or anyone who deals confidence! The long and short... One day I was searching the world wide web for a cute shirt to wear to work and had no luck. Everything I found was too bubbly or too simple. It was apparel I would never wear or purchase. I was SHOCKED no one in our booming industry, full of detail and art, had created a fashionable, elevated, brand appropriate shirt. There was nothing, in my opinion, worthy to wear with scrubs pants, so I said ‘screw it’, I’ll create something. Ergo the birth of OK Apparel. Little did I know, it’s a lot harder than it looks, but SO WORTH IT! My day job, as an Aesthetic Provider, is focused on studying the details and anatomy of a face, fixating on where the light reflects in order to enhance the beauty of the individual, to make them feel their most confident. It’s an art. As injectors we have an artistic flare. This new endeavor and brand has allowed me to tap more into my creativity and learn the ins and outs of running a small business. The lip prints on the shirts are custom, I kissed a sheet of white computer paper with my favorite bold, red lipstick (shout out to one of my best friends, Briana, for the genius idea when I was having a meltdown that I couldn’t find the right lips, LOL) and I created the “kiss” print embroidered on all the apparel. A red pout is feminine, yet daring and powerful, which is precisely what type of person I want wearing this apparel. I want my brand to speak to people who give others the ultimate gift of confidence and conviction. If you are someone who exudes the expression “Confidence Dealer™”, whether you are a cosmetic injector, doctor, nurse, esthetician, designer, makeup artist, cosmetologist, coach, therapist, teacher, mother, friend, partner, etc.etc.... then you are the gift and influence we need most in the world. You can find all my apparel available for purchase on oliviakirkpatrickapparel.com! And you can follow along on my journey at @OK_Apparel_ and @Olivia_Aesthetics_ (Instagram handles). Thus far I have created a buttery soft, embroidered t-shirt, baseball hats (to protect you from the sun. DUH) , and crewneck sweaters. I cannot wait to continue to create for this community! It has been such a pleasant surprise and complete curve ball, but I am leaning into every moment!

  • Challenging Gender Biases in Aging at Modern Beauty Con

Hosted by Steven and Renata Roddy in Boston. 350 Attendees. Great faculty Whenever I give a presentation I strive to convey key messages and this is an important one! This touch point @modernbeautycon conference was intended to draw attention to the double standard that exists when it comes to aging and facial wrinkles between men and women (see video below) Women are judged negatively and held at higher beauty standards than men. They are expected to have smooth baby skin but males are praised for their lines and wrinkles as signs of wisdom and success. Grrrr! Makes me so mad but as aesthetic providers are we part of the problem …. or part of the solution? What are your thoughts? We must acknowledge these stigmas and make progress towards our societal biases to be more nonjudgmental. PTTP (my new abbreviation - POWER TO THE PUSSY) Wrinkles, your choice 🥰

  • Aesthetic Providers Why Join Patreon? I post every Sunday without fail!

I am dedicated to ensuring the next generation of aesthetic providers are provided with realistic, straightforward, and safe approaches to assessment, consultation, injecting and treatment. It was a very different climate when I first started in Aesthetics 18 years ago than it is now. We were new to the industry and had to learn through trial and error. There were numerous blunders. Every patient's face served as a training ground for me. I covered up my mistakes rather than learning from them. We were all guilty. Our patients even praised us for delivering subpar results as they also did not know any better. How times have changed! I recall feeling isolated in a new industry with no collaborative network or ongoing education. Back then, there were no conferences and no virtual options and there were definitely no peers that you could confess your sins with. As social media grew, it started to become a place to share ideas on injecting but to me it was not a safe place. I didn't feel at home in a luxury industry full of small waists, perky boobs, and stilettos. I removed any injector videos from social media and moved them to Patreon which became a great place to house injector content behind a pay wall for other injectors. Patreon fosters a secure environment for asking questions and cultivating a community that empowers the upcoming generation of injectors, ensuring that everyone feels included. My objective is to inform fellow providers that there is room for us, even in our casual attire like sweatpants and sneakers. There is space for each one of us. This platform also serves as an excellent meeting point for people from across the nation and around the globe. Start by establishing connections here and developing a network to expand upon. Encourage others to join; there is ample business for all, and our aim is to uplift one another and improve our collective outcomes.

  • Where Are They Now? Brooke East

Brooke East, RN BSN Introducing Brooke East as the newest addition to our "Where Are They Now?" series brings us great excitement. Brooke took part in a Combined Full Day Hands-Training Course in Oct 2020. What were you doing before you got into aesthetics? My interest in aesthetics began when I started receiving treatments of my own (lasers, peels, facials and toxins) in 2019. I was working as an ER nurse in a level 1 trauma center and quite frankly busting my ass for little in return. I started seeing how important these treatments were for my self-care. I loved working in trauma/critical care, however, I often wondered how sustainable it was for me, especially if my husband and I wanted to start a family one day. What inspired you to pursue a career in aesthetics and choose The Confidence Lab's training program? After the 2nd big wave of Covid was when I knew I had to take charge of my career and create a new path for myself. I registered for the online novice neuromodulator course through The Confidence Lab and started doing mobile botox for Innovative MedSpa. Finally, the day came that registration for the hands-on training for neuromodulators and fillers was announced (Fall 2020). I registered so fast you would have thought it was tickets for Lalapalooza. I can tell you this was best decision I have ever made. I was so inspired by Rana and her enthusiasm for not only aesthetics, but for building people up and creating community. Her energy was contagious. This was where I began to see what a supportive community there was in aesthetics! I was blown away at how down to earth, kind and flat-out hilarious Rana was. I was nervous but eager to learn and she created an atmosphere where everyone felt comfortable and at ease. It was just as much fun as it was educational. It opened my eyes to what a career in aesthetics could look like and I realized then that this is where I want to be. I still remember the immense high that I felt after that training and the huge grin that didn’t leave my face for days! What is your favorite aspect of working in the field of aesthetics? My favorite part about this job is the relationships I get to build with my patients. I love being a part of their own self-care journey. My favorite memory is when a mother of one of my patients actually came in to thank me for “helping her daughter to see her true beauty.” I always tell my patients that approval from a partner or parent is the highest compliment and this mom brought me to tears. This job allows you to help people in such a unique way and can be so rewarding. What are you doing now? I have since left the Emergency Department to work as a Nurse Injector full time and I absolutely love my job. I now have a 6 month old baby boy and I am so grateful for Rana and the opportunities that her training provided me. I am so glad I made this career change when I did! The Confidence Lab provided me with all the tools be a successful nurse injector and I couldn’t be more indebted to Rana and her amazing team. There is a huge sense of community and support well beyond the classroom. To see women who truly value and support each other was so refreshing and really is the foundation that Rana has built around the Confidence Lab. What advice would you give to those considering a career in this field? If you’re thinking about taking the leap into aesthetics, get started now. Don’t wait until you’re burnt out. Take the course, learn as much as you can, build those relationships and the rest will fall into place if you want it bad enough. You aren’t losing anything by setting yourself up now for a better career in the future.

  • Is it The Confidence Bar or The Confidence Lab?

People do often get confused about business's The Confidence Bar and The Confidence Lab. Are they the same or different or are they related? The Confidence Bar and The Confidence Lab are both shared on Instagram @theconfidencebar. While they both businesses share a focus on confidence and aesthetics, they differ in their offerings, with The Confidence Bar provides aesthetic facial treatments for patients; and The Confidence Lab offers aesthetic education and training for practitioners. • Where Are They Now? Rachel Dewar

Rachel Dewar, LPN We are excited to introduce Rachel Dewar as the latest addition to our "Where Are They Now?" series. Rachel participated in a 1-on-1 Customized Training with Cristina Herman in Aug 2022. What were you doing before you got into aesthetics? Before entering into the aesthetics world I have worked in general medicine as a LPN for the last eight years and I do love it. I am currently enrolled in a bridge to registered nurse program! What inspired you to pursue a career in aesthetics? I decided to look into other aspects of nursing as I wanted to explore my creative side, I found aesthetics when my passion for skin care naturally drew me in. I currently work as a contractor out of a busy clinic in Nanaimo BC. Building a clientele is a challenge at the beginning and I am still working on it! I also work part time in acute medicine at the hospital!. Why did you choose The Confidence Lab's training program? I chose the personalized training program at the Confidence Lab because I wanted to train alongside individuals who have a passion for what they are doing. As an outsider it was quite clear that this team has extensive knowledge about the industry and injecting technique. Being extremely new to this industry I saw a lot of trainings being offered by Providers where they have one injector in their clinic. The Confidence Lab was very different in how the workplace supports the learning among multiple injectors to create this amazing team of leaders in the industry. I find it extremely motivating that all of the injectors at the Confidence Bar are also continuing their education at all times and that this was being supported in the workplace. Even going from RNs to nurse practitioners! I think one of the key points I learned in my training was to treat my current clients like family and give them 100% every time I see them. This has allowed me to build rapport & trust. What is your favorite aspect of working in the field of aesthetics? My favourite aspect of working in aesthetics is the confidence you can give an individual almost instantly. It is a humbling feeling to be able to give a person a little bit of new found confidence! What advice would you give to those considering a career in this field? Advice I would give is to never stop being your authentic self! Keep persevering, keep learning!
