Welcome to "Where Are They Now?", a series that follows the journey of individuals who have attended one of our courses and how they have applied the skills and knowledge gained with us in their professional and personal lives. We believe that learning is a lifelong journey. We take pride in knowing that our program has positively impacted the lives of our attendees.

Liz Firestone, NP APRN, joined The Confidence Lab for a Sculptra Training.

What were your professional backgrounds before aesthetics? How does it influence the way you practice today?

My nursing background began immediately after high school. I completed my training at Iowa Methodist School of Nursing which was a prestigious 3-year nursing diploma program affiliated with Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in 1994. I then pursued my bachelor's degree, immediately followed by my master's degree in nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2001. Initially, I practiced Cardiology, Gastroenterology, and then Internal Medicine for a total of six years, before I started Dermatology where I initially discovered aesthetics. I worked for Dr. Rodney Basler who was a brilliant Dermatologist. He taught me the art of gently injecting anesthesia into a patient's face. I treated various skin conditions, performed minor surgical lesion removals and performed the skin laser treatments on the psoriasis and vitiligo patients. After nearly 5 years of Dermatology, I switched to Interventional Radiology in 2011, where I was able to perform various aesthetic procedures including Botox injections, facial rejuvenation with dermal fillers, cosmetic and vein light guided sclerotherapy, laser face vein treatments, and medical grade chemical peels.

What Inspired You to Pursue a Career in Aesthetics?

In January 2022, I decided to open my medical spa Love Aesthetics, to continue providing aesthetic procedures. I did this primarily so I could focus on the quality of my patient's treatment results, instead of the quantity of clients that I would see in a day. I take my time performing procedures. My clients are an image of my personal aesthetic skills, and I want it to be awe-inspiring. Being honest with a client about aesthetic services is by far the most important aspect of my job. If I feel that I can't successfully and safely perform what a client desires, I will gladly refer that client to another provider.

Why Did You Choose The Confidence Lab's Training Program?

I chose The Confidence Lab for my training program because one of the top dermatology practices in Lincoln chose The Confidence Lab to train their nurse practitioners and physician assistants to learn safe techniques for all aesthetic procedures. I also chose The Confidence Lab for the ongoing relationship that they provide. It's their goal for all providers they train to provide safe procedures while keeping honesty and ethics in your decision making.

What Is Your Favorite Aspect of Working in the Field of Aesthetics?

My favorite aspect of working in aesthetics is that I can give a client the opportunity to see their face in a new light. I'm not creating beauty; I'm simply revealing theirs. Nothing makes me happier than handing my client a mirror and seeing that huge smile on their face after seeing their treatment results.

What Are You Doing Now?

After spending all of 2025 working with another medical spa to merge businesses, I decided to continue the struggle of being a solo aesthetic provider so that I could provide personalized treatment plans without politics. I'm reopening my business Love Aesthetics on March 2, 2026. Thanks to The Confidence Lab, I'll be adding Sculptra biostimulator treatments to my current list of services which includes neurotoxin injections, full face dermal fillers, sclerotherapy, PRP hair restoration and facials, microneedling, dermaplaning, and chemical peels. I'm also a paramedical tattoo artist. I provide 3D areola restoration, scar camouflage, inkless stretchmark removal, nano/powder brows, and lip blushing permanent makeup procedures.

What Advice Would You Give to Those Considering a Career in This Field?

My advice for anyone considering a career in aesthetics, don't ever compare your integrity to make a client happy. I don't care who they are, or how much influence they might have on future client referrals; I always do the right thing. In dermatology, you are taught that if you think that your client has unrealistic expectations, or that you might not be able to give that client the exact treatment results that they desire, Don't touch that client. If you aren't upsetting a few clients along the way, you're not doing it right.
