- Madison Street Fest was a success. What We Learned and How to Make Your Next Event a Hit
This past weekend, our business had the amazing opportunity to participate in our very first neighborhood street festival—the Madison Row Street Festival . Spoiler alert: it was a perfect fit for us! The event was a fantastic chance for our team to hang out, connect with the local community, build relationships, and create new opportunities. Being on the third floor with no exterior signage, we always joke that if patients find us, they really have to work for it—especially since they pass at least five other med spas with huge street-level signs on their way. But what we learned from this festival is that events like these are a golden opportunity for potential new patients to meet our team in a relaxed, fun environment. Plus, it gave us a chance to see which team members truly stood out! The day was an overwhelming success—we were busy non-stop and thrilled to add 137 potential new patients to our practice. Our tent quickly became the festival hotspot, thanks to our spin-the-wheel game (which we broke by the end of the day!), an amazing face painter, candy, free skincare samples, music, and temporary tattoos. The line at our tent was so long that it felt a bit awkward—but only because some other booths didn’t quite match the energy we brought! Here are the key elements that made our festival experience a success: 1. Spin The Wheel This game was a huge crowd-pleaser and an effective way to collect patient sign-ups. We offered a mix of exciting prizes, including those redeemable only when patients came in for treatment, adding an extra incentive. Our "hype person" Angie worked her magic, drawing people in with her energy and getting them excited to spin and win! 2. Face Painting & Tattoos By far the most popular activity of the day! Kids loved the face painting and stick-on tattoos, while we took the opportunity to engage with parents as they waited. We even got many of them to spin the wheel, making it a win-win: kids walked away happy, and we walked away with new patient leads. 3. Raffle Giveaway We also hosted a free raffle for an incredible Alastin Skincare package worth over $1,500, adding another level of excitement. It served as another perfect way to collect leads and encourage future visits. 4. Post-Festival Promotion To keep the momentum going, we offered a post-festival promotion for new patients interested in Dysport treatments. This promotion ensured that the new connections we made turned into booked appointments. 5. Team Bonding Beyond being a promotional success, the festival served as an excellent team bonding experience . It gave us a chance to showcase our business, learn what worked (and what didn’t), and come together in a meaningful way. As we wrap up and catch our breath, we’re working on a thank-you newsletter for everyone who stopped by, reminding them to claim their prizes and schedule their appointments. All in all, it was an unforgettable day, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s festival!

- Mid Face Anatomy with Lamija Hubjer, PA-C
Understanding facial anatomy is absolutely essential before injecting facial fillers. Here’s a sneak preview of Lamija Hubjer, PA-C, sharing key insights on facial anatomy during one of our 1:1 customized training sessions. The face is a complex structure with intricate layers of muscles, fat pads, and blood vessels. Without a thorough knowledge of this anatomy, there’s a risk of complications, such as improper filler placement, which can lead to unsatisfactory results or even serious side effects such as blindness (god forbid). Knowing the precise location of these structures allows aesthetic practitioners to inject safely, minimize risks, and achieve natural-looking results that boost a patient's confidence. At The Confidence Lab, we prioritize safety in our aesthetic education. Our training sessions are led by our experienced educators who present complex anatomy in a straightforward, down-to-earth manner, making it easier for you to grasp and apply. - Where Are They Now? Natalie Hollis Clem
Welcome to "Where Are They Now?", a series that follows the journey of individuals who have attended one of our courses and how they have applied the skills and knowledge gained with us in their professional and personal lives. We believe that learning is a lifelong journey, and we take pride in knowing that our program has had a positive impact on the lives of our attendees. Natalie Hollis Clem Introducing Natalie Hollis Clem , the newest addition to our "Where Are They Now?" series brings us great excitement. Natalie took part in our Customized Advanced Full Day Training with Rana & Cristina at The Confidence Lab in July, 2024. She was not only an attendee, but a model as well! What were you doing before you got into aesthetics? I have been a nurse since 2005 with a background in Medical Surgical Nursing as well as Labor & Delivery. When I graduated with my FNP in 2020, I worked in Women's Health Clinics and continue to do so 2 days a week today as it is also a passion of mine. What inspired you to pursue a career in aesthetics? Honestly, I had always wanted to "dabble" in the aesthetic realm but had never had the opportunity. To save you from a long sappy story (I will tell you if you really want to know, just let me know), I kind of just landed into it several years ago without even trying. I went in for a botox appointment one day and left with a job at a Med Spa. Why did you choose The Confidence Lab's training program? I have been following Rana since I started in the aesthetic industry, and I absolutely LOVE her energy and the way she connects with her patients. I knew I would want to train with her just for that fact alone as well as her knowledge and experience. I started following her on Patreon for those reasons as well. What is your favorite aspect of working in the field of aesthetics? My absolute favorite things about working in the aesthetic industry is having the ability to help women and men bring their confidence back. The look on their face when they are in my chair and see their transformation is worth every single minute of growth and education for me. It brings joy and gratitude to my heart! What are you doing now? I now am the founder of The Collective Salon & Spa and work with an amazing little group of ladies. I work 2 days a week at the Women's Clinic which is right down the road from the spa. I see patients at the spa every Monday, Wednesday, & Friday and two Saturdays out of the month with goals to grow and be here daily. What advice would you give to those considering a career in this field? For anyone who would want to being their journey in aesthetics, do it from a heart space. Do it from a place of kindness and seeing in others what they cannot. Do not do it strictly for monetary gain. Also, know that this is a field of medicine that is changing daily. It requires a lot of determination, perseverance and goal setting to get where you want to be. It takes a lot of continuing education to stay at the top of your craft and set you apart from others. While this field seems like a "cake" job to some, it isn't. Regardless if you own a business or work for someone, it takes a lot to gain the knowledge and skill set to treat people appropriately with good outcomes. - Self-Injecting: A Concern We Can't Ignore
Can aesthetic practitioners inject their own toxins and fillers? Technically, yes. But the real question is: should they? I've often expressed my concerns about self-injecting with facial injectables from both ethical and safety perspectives. To my surprise, Ive encountered significant pushback, even from some of my mentors, when I assumed we’d all agree on prioritizing safety and professionalism in aesthetic medicine. Comments ranged from "I only trust myself with my face" to "I know my anatomy best," and even, "I've been injecting my face for the last 20 years without any issues." My internal response? “Your a dick.” My online response “I beg to differ” It’s disheartening to scroll through social media and see countless videos of self-injecting, from doctors and nurses to everyday individuals. During our aesthetic courses at The Confidence Lab, I always aim to start the conversation on the right foot. I emphasize the downsides & unprofessional use of self-injecting, and I always see agreement in the room. While it’s not illegal to self-inject, we really need to ask ourselves: is it safe? Currently, there are no mandatory regulations preventing this practice, which raises a lot of questions. So, why do people self-inject? Let’s be honest: the primary motivation is often for visual appeal and, in a way, education (albeit a misguided one). There are numerous videos of aesthetic practitioners—physicians and nurses alike—self-injecting, with many racking up thousands of likes and shares. While these videos might have some educational value, they also send a questionable message about our field, suggesting that anyone can do this. Just picture the scenario: an injectable nurse sitting in front of the mirror, camera set up, self-injecting, only to suddenly experience intense pain and visual disturbances. This has likely happened (cue slight exaggeration), but it rarely makes it to social media! Now, don’t think I’m being Matron like. I understand the temptation to sneak in a unit or two of tox for a little touch-up of a spock brow. However, I strongly believe that showcasing this on camera poorly represents our profession. In my opinion, there’s really no good reason to self-inject, especially not in front of a camera. I’ve joked about this before, but I genuinely mean it: self-injecting should be like masturbation - a private matter—something done in the comfort of your own home where nobody needs to see it or hear it! Thank you to everyone who spreads the word about the importance of refraining from self-injecting, especially to a virtual audience.

- Why Proper Consultations Matter: Insights from Rana Kennelly at The Confidence Lab
Safety is paramount when visiting a med spa, and a crucial element of this is having a proper consultation before any procedure. At The Confidence Lab, we emphasize the importance of thorough consultations as a core part of our training The following blog post from AmSpa gathers insights from several expert practitioners, including Rana Kennelly at The Confidence Lab, on what to look for in a safe med spa visit. A key focus is on the significance of performing a proper patient consultation. Here’s an overview of Rana’s insights. The Importance of a Proper Consultation Rana Kennelly highlights that a proper consultation is not just a formality but a vital part of the med spa experience. This initial meeting with a qualified professional sets the stage for a successful and safe treatment. Here's why it's so crucial: Personalized Assessment During a consultation, the provider will conduct a thorough assessment of your skin type, medical history, and aesthetic goals. This personalized approach ensures that the treatments recommended are tailored to your specific needs and conditions. Kennelly stresses that without this step, there is a higher risk of adverse reactions and less satisfactory results. Education and Transparency Kennelly believes that a good consultation is also an educational experience. It’s an opportunity for the patient to learn about the various treatment options available, the procedures involved, and the expected outcomes. The provider should provide detailed information about the benefits and risks of each treatment, allowing the patient to make an informed decision. Transparency about what to expect can significantly reduce anxiety and build trust between the patient and your provider. Safety and Suitability One of the primary goals of a consultation is to determine the safety and suitability of treatments for the patient. Kennelly points out that this involves discussing any potential contraindications, such as allergies, medical conditions, or medications that might affect the treatment. Ensuring that a treatment is safe for you specifically is a cornerstone of a responsible med spa practice. Building a Relationship A consultation is also the first step in building a trusting relationship between the patient and their provider. Kennelly emphasizes the importance of feeling comfortable and confident in your practitioner's skills and knowledge. A thorough consultation allows the patient to ask questions, express concerns, and gauge the professionalism and expertise of the med spa staff. Setting Realistic Expectations Rana Kennelly advises that a proper consultation helps set realistic expectations. The provider should clearly communicate what the treatment can and cannot achieve, helping to align your expectations with achievable outcomes. This honest approach prevents disappointment and ensures a higher level of satisfaction with the results. Post-Treatment Care A comprehensive consultation should include a discussion about post-treatment care. Kennelly notes that understanding the aftercare process and any potential downtime is crucial for achieving the best possible results. Proper guidance on aftercare can enhance the effectiveness of the treatment and minimize the risk of complications. Key Takeaways In summary, Rana Kennelly underscores that a proper consultation is a non-negotiable part of any safe and effective med spa visit. It ensures personalized treatment, educates the patient, assesses safety and suitability, builds a trusting relationship, sets realistic expectations, and provides essential post-treatment care instructions. When planning your next med spa visit, prioritize finding a provider who values and conducts thorough consultations as part of their practice. By following these guidelines, you can enhance your med spa experience and achieve your aesthetic goals safely and effectively.

- Where Are They Now? Tara Fox
Tara Fox Introducing Tara Fox, the newest addition to our "Where Are They Now?" series brings us great excitement. Tara took part in a Sculptra Training with Lauren at The Confidence Lab in June, 2024. What were you doing before you got into aesthetics? Before entering aesthetics, I was/am a pediatric Nurse Practitioner with 14 years experience and currently teach in a Family NP/CRNA to doctorate program. Although I am still in these fields, aesthetics has become a passion project and I want to spend my free time learning about the newest aesthetics products and procedures! What inspired you to pursue a career in aesthetics? I found myself wanting to pursue more procedural skills as well as have always been interested in aesthetic medicine. There is something gratifying about helping someone see the beauty in their outward appearance. You can make a difference in someone’s day so quickly. It’s very rewarding! Why did you choose The Confidence Lab's training program? I chose The Confidence Lab after talking to one of my good friends who has been an injector in Virginia for many years. She follows The Confidence Bar's Instagram and has found it very informative. She has always said she wants to do a training in Chicago! As I happened to live nearby I started following The Confidence Bar and found the account informative also. After reading more on the website about training, I was ready to sign up for the Sculptra class! As a new injector to Sculptra, I was enticed by the small class sizes and what appeared to be a very hands on approach! What is your favorite aspect of working in the field of aesthetics? Product-wise: Biostimulators like Sculptra and Radiesse! I’m in love! They provide natural looking results and can cover so much more of the face than one syringe of filler! I love seeing the gradual before and afters! Procedural-wise: Full face Toxin. I like finding the right combination of placement and dosing to treat a client's concerns while not looking over done! Personal: I love meeting new people and find it personally gratifying to help people see their own beauty. We spend so much time focusing on minor imperfections on our face and body we see as so BIG, but are likely characteristic that make us unique. Aesthetics is about enhancing and if I can show someone just how beautiful they are without treatments/procedures and get them to love their outward appearance just a little more, it’s a good day :) What are you doing now? Along with teaching two days a week, I am in a practice that has aesthetics medicine, Excell Rejuvenation in Indianapolis, Indiana. What advice would you give to those considering a career in this field? 1. Initially take a safety course THEN follow up with training in injectables and treatments! This was so helpful for me to focus on anatomy, recognize adverse effects with procedures, and even provided great tips and tricks to ensure procedures are standardized. 2. Start at a practice that will provide you the most training! There are so many good resources but hands-on training is the best because you meet others in the same boat as well as instructors who are willing to help you with your career! 3. Consult before you treat! For example, someone may be interested in coming in for lip filler but after a consult you may find that toxin and microneedling is better management to treat their concerns! This ensures you provide the best possible results for the client! 4. Just one more: Stick with 2-3 types of treatment initially. There are so many great products but get proficient at a few before moving into your next endeavor or it will become overwhelming! Sign up now for upcoming Sculptra Trainings with Lauren!

- Mastering Cannula Techniques for Safe and Effective Results
At our entry-level trainings, we emphasize proficiency with both needles and cannulas to ensure the best results and the safest outcomes. While many believe that starting with needles is easier, our courses, along with our supportive learning environment, leave attendees confident in their cannula use after training. Everyone always say, it wasnt that bad and they love it!. We consider a cannula a safety device due to its blunt end, which is less likely to puncture vessels and instead navigates around them, minimizing the risk of intravascular injection. However, using small cannulas with too much force can still puncture vessels, which is why we do not teach with 27-gauge cannulas. This gauge is small and can act more like a needle and with enough pressure can slice and dice like a needle. In our entry classes, we teach the use of cannulas for areas like the mid-face, nasolabial folds, chin, and even sometimes the lips. But for very fine lines,or lip definition needles are necessary as cannulas do not reach superficial enough to give the best results. As you develop your skills, you’ll realize the importance of both needles and cannulas. Experienced practitioners are trained to use both tools as needed to provide safe, consistent results and that's why in every class we share the importance of being proficient in both. Check out this video from Rana's Patreon, where she talks about discovering cannula and going to France to learn how to use. Thanks to this experience, she and her team now train attendees on how to use cannula effectively. So see more videos where Rana demonstrates how she uses Cannula in her practice follow Rana at Patron: https://www.patreon.com/naturally_rana/posts?filters%5Btag%5D=cannula
- Where Are They Now? Mindy Choi
Mindy Choi Introducing Mindy Choi the newest addition to our "Where Are They Now?" series brings us great excitement. Mindi took part in a Combined Full Day Hands-On Training Course with Rana in November 2020. What were you doing before you got into aesthetics? I was working as a cardiac nurse on a medsurg unit at a busy university hospital in the chicagoland area. What inspired you to pursue a career in aesthetics? I was looking for something that would fulfill my passion and interests in both health & beauty. I used to do freelance makeup and in doing so I would always love the feeling it gave me. I had the opportunity to unleash my creativity and help others feel more beautiful in their skin. That was such an amazing and powerful feeling for me but I did that on the side and never fully pursued being a makeup artist because I didn’t want to “waste” my nursing skills. I never even knew as a nurse I could get into this field or that aesthetic medicine even existed because in mind all I’d ever known is plastic surgery, never the non-surgical realm. So I talked to the only friend I knew who was an aesthetic nurse and she gave me some tips on how to become one. After taking the first step and getting more information I was hooked. I wanted to learn everything I possibly could know about aesthetics. Why did you choose The Confidence Lab's training program? I had attended a different training course that didn’t involve as much guidance as I had hoped for, so when this one was highly recommended from another friend I decided I’d give it shot. This entire training course was exactly what I needed. It was the hands on learning in an intimate safe atmosphere for me. What I heavily appreciated was completing the online portion prior to the all day hands-on clinical portion. The online portion was in depth and set the foundation for exactly what to expect during the hands-on training. It also gave me the confidence I needed and the ability to inject with that confidence during the hand-on session. The energy, the empowerment, and the sense of community I gained with the confidence lab is forever invaluable. What is your favorite aspect of working in the field of aesthetics? My favorite aspect is the gratification you will have from treating your patients and the work life balance. In aesthetic medicine it is forever evolving and you’ll never get bored of it. You will gain new lifelong connections. Nothing will ever feel too basic or routine. You will always be hungry for more and constantly questioning yourself. I am a student by heart always hungry for learning. Whether it’s learning about my patient, about new products, about new technology and devices, or learning new techniques to improve safety for my patient. This year I became a new mother and find that in the world of aesthetics you can create a schedule that works well for you and your lifestyle while still maintaining what you love to do. It is just endless possibilities and truly rewarding to work in Aesthetics. What are you doing now? I actually moved away from Chicago and live in the Denver area working as an aesthetic provider at Aère Aesthetics for @thebeautypaI love it because I can credit Rana for being one of the big reasons why I continued my journey in aesthetics. When I was back at home in Chicago I was finding it difficult to find work in aesthetics due to no injecting experience. Rana would refer me places she knew were hiring but at the time I decided to move to Colorado. The stars aligned somehow placing me in the right place at the right time fast forwarding now to working for an amazing mentor and leading aesthetic provider/educator, Neekan Rivera (Owner and founder of Aère Aesthetics) What advice would you give to those considering a career in this field? Find your niche - figure out what it is that you really want to focus on getting good at? If it’s everything you can get too overwhelmed. Is it botox? Is it lip filler? Do you want to specialize in undereyes? Will you become the go-to skin specialist for patients with hyperpigmentation? Find yourself a mentor if you can. Remember the only thing that is stopping you is you.
